Team USA Aims for Distraction-Free Experience in Milan

The governing bodies representing Team USA are focused on minimizing distractions while in Italy.

Work commenced last year on a hotel venue in Milan designed to accommodate USA Hockey, USA Speed Skating, and USA Figure Skating for the upcoming 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.

The hotel, named Aethos Milan, is set to host gatherings, sponsorship events, and medal ceremonies for these three sports.

This initiative has been in the works for several months and was announced with enthusiasm previously under the name Ice House.

U.S. Figure Skating’s CEO, Matt Farrell, mentioned, “We anticipate this venue will be a central meeting place for athletes, families, media, and fans.” He emphasized the unique ambiance of the Olympics.

Pat Kelleher, Executive Director of USA Hockey, expressed that the venue would be a welcoming space to honor the athletes. Similarly, Ted Morris, executive director of U.S. Speed Skating, noted that the Ice House was intended to be a home for the Team USA community.

Now, these three organizations have collectively decided to rename the venue from Ice House to Winter House.

A spokesperson for the group shared that this change aims to create a private environment free from distractions for athletes and their families. The name, they suggested, reflects the vision and resonates with seasonal themes.

Additional plans reveal that the venue will also support media personalities from various platforms such as radio, digital content, and podcasts.

According to the New York Times, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will join the U.S. delegation in Italy for the Olympics. This arrangement drew attention from Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who asserted that ICE officers would not be permitted on Italian streets.

Recent protests in Milan featured predominantly elderly attendees voicing their discontent over ICE’s presence, holding signs that read things like “Ice out!” and humorously addressing food preferences with slogans like “All I want is ICE in Peach Tea!”
