Elizabeth Smart's father speaks on Nancy Guthrie's disappearance

Ed Smart Comments on Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance

Ed Smart, the father of Elizabeth Smart, recently shared his thoughts regarding the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie. Elizabeth, you might remember, was kidnapped from her home in 2002, and Nancy has gone missing under somewhat similar circumstances. She hasn’t been seen since Saturday night, which is deeply concerning.

Ed appeared on FOX News on February 5, where he offered words of hope, reflecting on his own family’s traumatic experience. He emphasized that, despite the nine long months of fear, his daughter eventually returned home. In light of Nancy’s situation, he praised her family’s efforts to raise awareness through social media, saying they want to “keep the news flowing” and “bring hope to her.”

“They’re trying to do everything they can to get her home,” he stated clearly.

He also gave the Guthrie family some advice concerning their approach to the situation. “I think it’s crucial to communicate directly with the kidnappers,” Ed mentioned, suggesting that this conveys a willingness to “comply” and “solve” the issue at hand.

Recalling the tremendous support from the community during Elizabeth’s ordeal, he noted, “In our case, there was a huge search from the public… We set up a website, which was very helpful in bringing in tips and more information.” He pointed out that the power of social media today is significant in spreading the word.

When asked about the possibility of Nancy hearing the video messages sent by her children, Ed reflected on his own past: “It’s uncertain if she could hear, but we must try to reach out.” He acknowledged that the dynamics in such situations often make communication complicated.

Ed expressed admiration for the law enforcement efforts, stating, “They appear to be doing a very good job,” while also recognizing how difficult it must be for the Guthrie family. “People are sleep-deprived and doing their best, but it’s really hard to stay focused when you can’t locate your loved one.” His empathy was evident as he shared sentiments on staying hopeful throughout this harrowing experience.

At a recent press conference, Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County indicated that there were no suspects or persons of interest in Nancy’s case at that time. The lack of leads can be frustrating, yet Ed emphasized the importance of patience, saying that having faith was essential until they receive definitive news. “We hope Nancy is found and brought home soon,” he concluded. This uncertain period is undoubtedly challenging for all involved.
