Ilhan Omar’s Fundraising Surge Amid Controversy

The recent scandal seems to be quite beneficial for Rep. Ilhan Omar.

The Minnesota congresswoman, a member of the “Squad,” closed out the year with an impressive fundraising performance, raking in $1.1 million in just a single quarter. This figure is almost double her average fundraising total from the previous three quarters, according to newly available filings from the Federal Election Commission.

From October 1 to December 31, she received over 10,000 donations. Notably, eight of these contributions came from outside the state, including a donation of up to $7,000 from Alexander Soros, the son of the well-known far-left billionaire.

This fundraising achievement coincides with increasing scrutiny on Omar, especially after reports surfaced regarding her husband, Tim Mynett, and his questionable business dealings. Their combined wealth reportedly surged from $5 million to $30 million within a year, driven by investigations from the Justice Department and Congress.

Moreover, there are ongoing questions regarding her awareness of a $9 billion welfare fraud case tied to her district and its Somali community.

As she prepares for her reelection campaign for a Minnesota House seat in 2025, Omar’s fundraising has totaled $2.9 million so far.

In light of a recent incident where a man threw apple cider vinegar on her at City Hall, she swiftly initiated fundraising efforts. “Due to President Trump’s continuous racist and hateful attacks, as well as the threats from the far-right, I need to enhance my security,” she mentioned during a fundraising call the day after the January 27 event.

She explained, “Security costs money. It’s more expensive than you might think. A lot of people assume that members of Congress have security provided for them, but that’s not the reality.”

Omar emphasized, “Had my security team not acted swiftly, the situation could have escalated. That’s why I’m hoping you’ll consider supporting my campaign today to ensure our continued safety.”

In 2025 alone, Omar reportedly allocated at least $21,120 of her campaign funds for private security services from Relative Intel, a firm based in the Twin Cities. This amount is in addition to the $10,000 monthly allowance that all Congress members receive to cover personal safety expenses, which was increased following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

As of now, Omar has not responded to requests for comments on these matters.
