Hilary Knight matches US Olympic hockey record with 14th goal

Hilary Knight One Goal Away from Olympic History

Star forward Hilary Knight is on the brink of making history—she needs just one more goal.

In her impressive fifth Olympic appearance, Knight equalized the all-time U.S. women’s Olympic goal record during Saturday’s game, where Team USA triumphed over Finland with a score of 5-0.

The 36-year-old netted her 14th Olympic goal—her second goal of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games—during the second period of the match.

Assisted by Lyla Edwards, who made history as the first Black woman to play for the U.S. women’s hockey team, Knight skillfully slid the puck into the near post on a power play, securing a substantial 4-0 lead for the U.S.

As one of the most decorated players in hockey history, Knight is now tied with Katie King and Natalie Darwitz for the most Olympic goals scored by an American. With plenty of time left in the tournament, she seems poised to break that record.

Another player to watch closely is Alex Carpenter, a former Sirens forward, who added her 10th Olympic goal on Saturday. The three-time Olympian currently finds herself in sixth place on the all-time U.S. women’s Olympic goals list.

Interestingly, there were concerns about Finland’s ability to compete, given that several players faced a norovirus outbreak in their locker room. Their opening game against Canada was postponed due to the situation.

However, Finland was no match for Team USA, which controlled the puck from the outset. The Americans really took charge during the second period, scoring three of their five goals.

New York native Aerin Frankel made a significant contribution as well, achieving her first Olympic shutout by stopping all 14 shots from the opposition.

Team USA has shown impressive dominance in their initial games of the Winter Olympics, previously defeating the Czech Republic 5-1 in their opener.

Having outscored their competitors 10-1 so far, the U.S. stands as a strong contender for the gold medal as they progress in the competition.

The next challenge for Team USA will be against Switzerland on Monday, followed by a highly anticipated game against Canada on Tuesday to conclude group play.
