Kansas City Royals’ Terrance Gore Passes Away at 34

The Kansas City Royals shared the news on Saturday that Terrance Gore, a three-time World Series champion, has died at the age of 34.

Gore was a key player on the Royals’ teams that won the American League Championship Series in both 2014 and 2015, and he contributed to the 2015 World Series victory. His career spanned from 2014 to 2022, during which he played for the Royals, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets.

What made Gore stand out in Major League Baseball was his role as a pinch runner and outfield defender. Over his career, he participated in 112 regular-season games, batting .216 without hitting any home runs, but managed to steal 43 bases.

Interestingly, he had only 85 at-bats in his MLB career. While he wasn’t really a threat at the plate, he was well-known for his speed on the bases, racking up 324 stolen bases in 11 minor league seasons.

This base-stealing skill earned him a reputation for being a valuable asset on postseason rosters, where he successfully stole bases at a rate of 5-of-6 attempts during playoff games.

Gore partook in two postseason games during the Royals’ successful 2015 World Series run and also appeared in one game with the Braves during their 2021 World Series campaign.

Originally from Macon, Georgia, Gore played just two games for the Dodgers in the regular season of 2020. He was included on the roster for the Dodgers’ first two World Series wins that year but, strangely, was left off the roster for both the NLCS and the World Series despite receiving a championship ring.

In a rather unique statistic, Gore played in three World Series but accumulated only one RBI in his entire career. He is survived by his wife, Britney, and his three children.
