Gabbard Responds to Whistleblower Allegations

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard addressed allegations of wrongdoing on Saturday amid Democratic concerns about the delay in presenting a whistleblower complaint against her that surfaced last May. She emphasized that the claims being made were unfounded.

In a lengthy post on X, Gabbard countered assertions made by Virginia Senator Mark Warner and various media outlets, stating, “This is a blatant lie.” She clarified that she had not possessed or managed the whistleblower complaint, which, as per her account, had been handled by Inspector General Tamara Johnson during its storage period.

The complaint, lodged by U.S. intelligence officials and alleging misconduct on Gabbard’s part, was first revealed by the Wall Street Journal, having been secured in a safe since its filing. A U.S. official had warned that disclosing its details could jeopardize national security.

Meanwhile, the whistleblower’s attorney alleged that Gabbard’s team delayed processing the complaint, a claim Gabbard dismissed as “politically motivated.” Democrats are also questioning why it took her office so long to inform Congress about the complaint.

Senator Warner remarked, referring to the law that mandates whistleblower complaints must be handed over to Congress within 21 days of filing. He suggested that the timeframe may have been manipulated to diminish the significance of the complaint.

Gabbard revealed that she only discovered the contents of the complaint while reviewing it to advise on safely sharing it with Congress. Furthermore, she contended that the laws surrounding such complaints dictate that guidance does not need to be provided unless the inspector general deems the allegations as urgent and credible—which, in this case, were not.

Moreover, Gabbard accused Warner of either knowingly misrepresenting facts or lacking the understanding necessary for his role, thus questioning his fitness for office. She maintained that some accusations against her had already been deemed not credible by investigative representatives, though others were still under review.

In her closing remarks, Gabbard criticized Warner for what she described as a sustained campaign of misinformation, which she argues compromises national security and misleads the American public.

Warner’s office responded to Gabbard’s accusations, denouncing her claims as “inaccurate” and asserting that they reflect her inability to fulfill her responsibilities as DNI. Meanwhile, Republican members of both the House and Senate intelligence committees voiced support for Gabbard, insisting that the allegations were not valid and criticizing the motives behind their emergence.

Gabbard’s office has not provided immediate comments following these exchanges.
