Luka Doncic’s status is currently “day-to-day” following a diagnosis of a mild hamstring strain, as shared by coach JJ Redick before the Lakers’ upcoming home game against the Warriors.
The injury occurred late in the second quarter during Thursday’s game against the 76ers, where Doncic was seen limping off the court with a little over two minutes left in the half. After being sent off, he headed to the locker room, visibly frustrated, even kicking the scorer’s table in his displeasure.
When pressed about whether Doncic’s situation might be less serious than a more severe hamstring issue, Redick offered a brief response, indicating that it’s still uncertain.
“Yeah,” he reiterated. “So, again, it’s every day.”
Doncic has been remarkable this season, averaging an impressive 32.8 points, 8.7 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals over 42 games, placing him at the top of the league.
Earlier this year, he was selected as an All-Star starter for the sixth time in eight seasons, which is quite an achievement, to say the least.
After Saturday’s game, the Lakers will face the Thunder and the Spurs back-to-back, culminating in a matchup against Doncic’s former team, the Mavericks, right before the All-Star Weekend.
Reflecting on Doncic’s potential participation in the All-Star Game, Redick seemed confident. Having been a teammate and now a coach, he believes Doncic has every intention of playing if he’s able. “I think he wants to be in the All-Star Game,” Redick noted, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming game against Dallas for Doncic.
In sum, it’s a waiting game now as the Lakers hope to see their star player back on the court soon.
