The search for Nancy, the mother of Annie and Savannah Guthrie, has now stretched into its seventh day. Notably, authorities were seen investigating Annie’s home late at night.
Law enforcement took photographs at Annie and her husband Tommaso Cioni’s residence in Tucson, Arizona, late Saturday until approximately 10:30 p.m. Reports indicate that investigators brought a silver briefcase into the house.
Efforts to reach the Pima County Sheriff’s Office for comments were unsuccessful.
Over the weekend, in a poignant Instagram video, Savannah and her siblings expressed their willingness to pay ransom for their mother’s return. Savannah, who hosts “Today,” emotionally stated, “We received your message and understand it. Please return our mother to us now, so we can celebrate with her.” She stressed the importance of their mother’s safety, adding that they would pay whatever price necessary.
Tracy Walder, a former CIA officer, expressed skepticism about the siblings’ video, calling it “contrived” and “scripted.” She raised concerns about whether they were negotiating for their mother or merely a body, mentioning how the phrase “celebrate” felt oddly misplaced in the context of such a dire situation.
Authorities continue to seek clues following the recovery of Nancy’s vehicle, camera, and floodlight from her home early Saturday morning. President Trump voiced optimism on Saturday, stating that investigators have uncovered strong leads and could provide answers soon.
The 84-year-old Nancy was last seen around 9:30 p.m. on January 31, following a dinner with Annie, after which her son-in-law drove her home. The family reported her missing to the police the next day when she failed to arrive at church.
In the midst of the ongoing investigation, Savannah halted her plans to host the Olympics in Italy, now prioritizing the search for her mother. Police have been frequently entering and exiting both Annie and Nancy’s homes, hoping to find more evidence.
On Monday, police declared Nancy’s home a crime scene after discovering her blood on the balcony. They believe she was abducted during the night and have identified multiple ransom notes since the incident.
The siblings have released several emotional videos, pleading with the kidnappers for their mother’s safe return. Savannah urged the captors to prove that Nancy was alive, indicating an urgent need for communication. Kamron also posted a video seeking dialogue with the kidnappers.
Authorities have yet to identify any suspects or persons of interest, adding that they are closely monitoring all involved. The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for any information that could assist in Nancy’s rescue.
The first ransom deadline passed without incident on Friday, and a second one was set for Monday. Walder mentioned that Nancy may have been “stalked for some time” prior to her abduction, which raises further concerns about the case.
In the broader broadcast community, Gayle King shared that there has been a strong wave of support for Savannah, stating that it’s a very unsettling and strange situation, emphasizing the need for someone to come forward with information.
