Seattle Seahawks Secure Super Bowl Championship Under Coach Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald, now in his second season with the Seattle Seahawks, has made a remarkable leap, officially stepping up as head coach of the Super Bowl champions.
The Seahawks displayed a formidable defense during their 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. Celebrating on the field at Levi’s Stadium, McDonald shared his thoughts on the victory with NBC’s Maria Taylor, reflecting on what it meant to him personally.
“I think, maybe, God has called me to coach,” McDonald expressed. “I heard Him, and I truly believe He is with us. We’re incredibly fortunate to be with the Seahawks—and to play the 12-man game—and now, we are world champions.”
Defensively, McDonald orchestrated a strategy that kept Patriots quarterback Drake Maye under pressure throughout the game. Though Maye managed a couple of clutch plays, he primarily struggled, feeling uncomfortable throughout the match.
The Seahawks managed to sack Maye six times, leading to two interceptions and a fumble on his part. Seattle’s Uchenna Nwosu notably returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown, which significantly dampened New England’s hopes for a comeback.
This success follows a challenging 2025 season for Seattle’s defense, which ranked first in points allowed and sixth in yards allowed. Ultimately, the team finished the regular season with a solid record of 14 wins and 3 losses, clinching the NFC West title and marking their first Super Bowl victory since the 2013 season.
This win against the Patriots is not only a testament to McDonald’s leadership but also a strong conclusion to a season filled with determination and hard work. The Seahawks previously defeated the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams to secure their spot in the Super Bowl.
