Toheeb Jimoh Discusses His Major Karaoke Scene, Ghana’s “Vibes for Kwabena,” and Possibility of Returning to ‘Ted Lasso’

Toheeb Jimoh Reflects on His Role in HBO’s Industry

Toheeb Jimoh, known for his role in Ted Lasso, recently shared his thoughts on being part of HBO’s gritty and alluring series Industry. However, he did express a bit of letdown when he discovered that he wouldn’t be filming on the iconic Pierpoint trading floor.

“Missing out on Pierpoint was a little disappointing,” Jimoh mentioned, referring to the series’ renowned trading environment. “However, I do think SternTao offers a compelling alternative.”

Unlike the towering skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, SternTao’s office is set within Eric Tao’s luxurious hotel suite, a choice that Jimoh pointed out has its perks.

“The room service is way better at SternTao,” he quipped, recalling a line from the show where Eric admonishes Kwabena to quit ordering so many chicken wings, though it seems Kwabena didn’t mind indulging.

In Season 4, Harper Stern partners with her former mentor, Eric Tao, to launch SternTao, a bold financial startup. Harper’s ambitious plan to develop a banking app, Tender, is based on the expectation of its eventual collapse. She tasks Kwabena Bannerman and Sweet Pea Golightly to investigate the app’s initial financial standing in Ghana.

**Spoiler Alert: Season 4 Episode 5 “Faceless Eyes” is now available on HBO Max**

The fifth episode takes viewers to Accra, Ghana’s energetic capital. Kwabena soon adjusts to the local pace, while Sweet Pea grapples with the relaxed atmosphere that interferes with their investigation. Concerned about Tender’s operations, Sweet Pea faces a shocking turn of events; while Kwabena is merrily singing at a beach bar, she is violently attacked in a bathroom.

This jarring incident brings the two colleagues closer together, stripping away their emotional defenses. By the episode’s end, they realize that Tender is just a façade—an empty shell siphoning money from investors.

Jimoh visited Decider’s studio in Manhattan to discuss his character’s significant episode, where he portrays an international agent alongside Sweet Pea. He offered insights into filming in South Africa, which served as a stand-in for Ghana, and amusingly mentioned that he’s not keen on facing Sam Obisanya again.

The Ghanaian Vibe

Decider: Let’s discuss episode 5. The show takes on a new energy in Ghana, partly due to the location and your character’s wardrobe. Did you notice any vibe shifts during filming?

Toheeb Jimoh: Absolutely! Industry is typically fast-paced, but in Ghana, everything just kind of slows down. For Kwabena, who wasn’t overly invested in the mission, it was about enjoying the experience. He thought, “I might as well soak up the vibe.” There was definitely a change in tone for him once, well, let’s say things got serious.

You mentioned Kwabena’s karaoke scene, which seems to be quite a highlight.

Oh, definitely! I reckon he had been singing for hours at that bar.

Was the song related to the episode title a surprise for you?

I had no idea that it connected to the title until afterward. When it came to the karaoke scene, I just knew Kwabena had to sing. It turned out to be so much fun! During filming, I even gave a shout-out to the extras there. We all became like this band of brothers on stage, and it was a blast pretending to be tipsy with everyone.

When Sweet Pea gets attacked, how does Kwabena react, knowing he’s supposed to have her back?

That’s the moment Kwabena really starts to change. Initially, he was just soaking in the experience. However, after the incident, he realizes how serious things are. He feels guilt and shame for not protecting her, especially since he’s more familiar with Ghana than she is. This shock ignites a stronger sense of responsibility in him, shifting him from carefree to focused on their mission.

Emotional Changes

There’s a tender moment later when Sweet Pea is injured, and it seems they finally drop their guards. Did you and Miriam notice that emotional shift while filming?

Getting away from work really allowed them to connect. After the violent event, their honesty increases—discussing personal topics they might not normally share. It’s one of the rawest moments in the series, showcasing a sincere level of intimacy without pretense. And, spoiler alert, they ultimately take their relationship a step further.

It’s quite lovely how, in their little world in Ghana, these two characters can be completely open with each other away from all judgment.

Wrap-Up

Before you leave, let’s quickly touch on Ted Lasso. Your character was such a joy.

Thank you!

Do you feel like there’s more to Sam’s story? Did you like his conclusion in Season 3?

[Laughs] It’s funny how polarized people are about that relationship. Some absolutely loved it, others didn’t see the appeal at all. I personally loved how Season 3 tied up a lot of character arcs, but I’d be open to revisiting those stories if there’s a chance—yet it feels like a fitting conclusion as well. I also think the upcoming season will be fantastic, especially with the women’s team taking center stage.

Industry Season 4 Episode 6 premieres on February 15 at 9 PM ET on HBO and HBO Max.

Ted Lasso Season 4 is set to debut on Apple TV in the summer of 2026.
