Investigation Intensifies in Disappearance Case of Nancy Guthrie
An ex-SWAT commander from Arizona shared insights on Monday regarding the current direction of the search for Nancy Guthrie. With a $6 million Bitcoin ransom deadline looming, the case is creating quite a bit of confusion among authorities.
Bob Krygier, a former SWAT commander of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, indicated that investigators will be scrutinizing the ransom note and revisiting previous leads to find answers related to the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother.
According to Krygier, “They’ll likely dig back into the leads they’ve gathered, conduct more interviews, and review surveillance footage from various locations, including buildings and intersections.”
He expressed confidence in the thoroughness of the investigation, especially as the second ransom deadline approaches at 5 p.m. Arizona time or 7 p.m. Eastern time. “I can assure you that they are following up on every lead that comes their way,” he added.
As the deadlines near, Krygier mentioned, “The closer it gets, the more doubts arise about the legitimacy of the notes. Concerns for the abductee’s safety outweigh any worries regarding the authenticity of the threats.”
He remarked on how the nature of kidnapping has evolved, stating, “It’s not like back in the day when you could simply drop bags of cash. Nowadays, kidnappers often need to provide proof about their victims through photos, videos, or conversations.”
Addressing tactics, Krygier mentioned that the police will devise a strategy to monitor the kidnappers. “We’ll treat the situation as if hostages are involved, particularly if there’s any deception about the victim’s condition,” he said.
Having former experience investigating high-profile cases, such as the 2011 assassination attempt on Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords, Krygier underscored the necessity of collaboration between local law enforcement and the FBI. “Local officers have a far better understanding of the nuances in the area, but a solid connection with the FBI is crucial. That’s likely how we’re going to crack the case involving Nancy Guthrie,” he concluded.
