Urgent Situation for Guthrie Family as Deadline Looms
As time runs out to locate Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC’s Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, new details have emerged regarding an alleged Bitcoin ransom.
An account purportedly set up for ransom negotiations was created, soliciting $6 million from the family. For the past week, those demanding the payment have been reaching out through media channels.
What remains uncertain is whether sending the money would actually lead to her safe return. So far, there’s been no evidence suggesting her well-being or any communication from those who may be holding her.
Over the weekend, Savannah and her brother expressed their willingness to pay the ransom, with a memo indicating that the first deadline had already passed last Thursday, and the next was set for tonight at 5 PM Tucson time.
“We desperately want our mother back and are ready to pay for her return. This is incredibly important to us, and we would appreciate a life without this nightmare,” Savannah and her brother shared on Instagram.
The Bitcoin account is currently empty, meaning no transactions have been initiated yet. A Fox News source indicated that Bitcoin transfers are typically quick, even involving substantial sums. The Guthrie family, even without prior cryptocurrency experience, could establish a wallet and make a transaction easily.
TMZ’s Harvey Levin weighed in on the situation after acquiring further details from the family. Law enforcement is treating this case with utmost seriousness, pursuing a detailed investigation.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the inquiry is still underway, yet no suspects or points of interest have been identified. Investigators were seen examining the septic tank behind Nancy’s residence on Sunday.
Nancy, at 84 years old, was reported missing on February 1 after not arriving at a local church. The last individuals to see her were her daughter Annie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni.
