Robert Irwin Shares His LA Experience

Robert Irwin recently expressed that he felt quite “terrified” of Los Angeles after his time competing on Dancing with the Stars. In a conversation about his experiences, Irwin humorously mentioned how he thought about riding an alligator during a traffic jam in LA.

“Oh my god! Driving in America was a new experience for me. It was my first time on the other side of the road in Los Angeles, and honestly, that was the scariest part of the whole ‘Dancing with the Stars’ adventure,” he remarked, reflecting on a particularly nerve-wracking moment behind the wheel.

“I really don’t know how you do that. Just give me a crocodile any day!” he added, highlighting his preference for the familiar rather than the chaos of city driving.

Having won Season 34 of the dance competition, Irwin acknowledged the support he received from fans in the States but emphasized that his heart will always belong to Australia. “Being in the Australian wilderness was where I grew up, and Los Angeles felt incredibly different,” he noted. Yet, he found comfort in the support from fans across America, saying it was “really amazing.”

Despite enjoying his time in LA, he longed for home. “I’ve been looking forward to coming back, but reuniting with my friends from the show here was special too,” he mentioned. However, he made it clear: “Australia has always been where my heart beats.”

Irwin also shared that he doesn’t really see himself as a “city kid.” His extended stay in California for the competition was eye-opening. “It’s been great to be in LA for three months, but I grew up in the bush. It’s nice to be back somewhere greener,” he said during a previous interview.

Robert grew up alongside his mother, Terri, and younger sister Bindi, continuing their father’s legacy at Australia Zoo. Steve Irwin’s untimely death in 2006 has left a lasting impact, but the family remains dedicated to his conservation work.

Looking ahead, Irwin plans to return to the U.S. for the upcoming Super Bowl. He excitedly mentioned that bringing a snake as his plus one was part of his dream experience. “It’s always been a goal of mine to attend the Super Bowl, and when I got the invite, I jumped on it—besides, I had to bring the snake,” he chuckled.
