Migrant Convicted of Child Kidnapping and Rape
A 23-year-old Afghan migrant has been found guilty of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl shortly after arriving in the UK via a smuggling boat. Ahmad Mulakil is facing a lengthy prison sentence and the possibility of deportation following the verdict from Warwickshire Crown Court. He was also convicted of two counts of sexual assault and filming an indecent video. Initially, the jury could not reach a decision, but after deliberating for more than seven hours, they reached a unanimous verdict. He was acquitted of second-degree rape.
In a separate case, another Afghan migrant faced charges of strangulation and attempted child abduction but was acquitted of all charges.
The court heard that Mulakil met the girl in a play park in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, on July 22, 2025. He subsequently took her to a secluded area where the assault occurred. During the attack, Mulakil allegedly threatened the girl’s family.
Post-incident, a member of the public found the girl and reported the crime to authorities.
Throughout the trial, Mulakil maintained that he had no intention of having sexual relations with the girl. He claimed she lied about her age and asserted that he “insisted” on recording the act on her phone, suggesting that she had consented. Prosecutors contended that he showed no remorse for his actions.
Mulakil arrived in the UK just four months before the assault after crossing the English Channel. Police were able to identify him quickly, as he used a government-funded debit card for purchases following the crime. Additionally, DNA evidence linked him to the victim.
Upon hearing the guilty verdict, Mulakil was reportedly in tears. He has been remanded in custody and awaits sentencing.
Authorities praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward. The case has drawn significant public attention amid ongoing debates about the housing of migrants in the UK, particularly in converted hotels and private homes. This incident follows a similar case where a child was assaulted by migrants in Epping, Essex, leading to unrest in the community.
Local residents in Nuneaton have protested both the incident and the handling of information by local police. George Finch, a local council leader, expressed frustration over the delay in disclosing details about the arrest of the Afghan asylum seeker involved. He has been vocal about the need for transparency, arguing that the community deserves to know about such incidents.
Finch highlighted what he perceives as efforts to cover up the situation, stating, “The people of Nuneaton are hurting and fed up.” He called on council leaders to work together in addressing the issues surrounding illegal immigration in their area.
