Chapel Lawn Exits Wasserman Music Agency Following Epstein Revelations
Pop star Chapel Lawn has announced her departure from the Wasserman Music Agency in light of recent disclosures about Casey Wasserman, the agency’s founder and CEO, and his ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. In an Instagram Story shared Monday night, the artist, known for “Pink Pony Club,” stated, “As of today, I am retiring from being represented by Wasserman.”
Lawn emphasized her commitment to high standards for her team, saying, “I have a duty to protect them. Artists, agents, and employees should not have to defend or overlook behavior that contradicts our moral values.” She further expressed her gratitude for the hard work of the agents and staff at Wasserman, but felt it was imperative to take a stand.
In her statement, the 27-year-old expressed, “Artists deserve an environment that aligns with their values and prioritizes their safety and dignity. This decision reflects my belief that meaningful change in our industry rests on accountability and trustworthy leadership.”
Recently released documents from the U.S. Department of Justice included emails from 2003 detailing interactions between Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate. In one email, Wasserman commented to Maxwell, “I think about you all the time, so how would I like to see you in a tight leather outfit?” In another, there was an exchange about a visit where Maxwell asked Wasserman if it would be foggy enough for her to go “naked on the beach without being seen,” to which Wasserman casually replied, “Or something like that.”
Following the release of these documents, Wasserman expressed his regret for his interactions with Maxwell, stating that these took place “long before her horrific crimes were revealed.” He claimed to have had no personal or business relationship with Epstein and mentioned a trip he took on Epstein’s plane in 2002 as part of a humanitarian endeavor connected to the Clinton Foundation.
With increasing pressure for him to step down as head of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, Wasserman remarked, “I very much regret having any association with either of them.” Reports indicate that Lawn isn’t the only artist leaving the agency; other musicians may follow suit after details about Wasserman’s past interactions emerged. Sources suggest Lawn’s representatives provided Wasserman an ultimatum to either resign or sell the company, which he has declined to do for now.
Wasserman is slated to meet with executive staff later this week as the situation evolves. The agency, one of the largest in the music industry, represents many prominent artists, including Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and SZA. In response to the escalating dissent, Wasserman’s artist roster has reportedly been removed from the agency’s website.
