Sweden Takes Action Against Deadly Teen Hitmen Issue Amid Liberal Criticism

Sweden’s Police Crackdown on Gang Violence and Child Recruitment

In response to rising violence, particularly involving youth, Swedish authorities have empowered police to address gang-related crime actively. This decision, however, has faced significant opposition from various liberal groups who view it as a concerning shift.

According to reports, Middle Eastern drug gangs in Sweden started recruiting children as young as 12 through social media to carry out targeted killings of rival gang members. This has contributed to an alarming increase in gun violence, especially noted in 2022. In early 2024, the Swedish government introduced new policing powers, deemed controversial by freedom advocates and criticized by the United Nations as “disgusting and illegal.”

Despite the protests, Sweden’s government announced a notable decrease in mass shootings. In 2025, there were 147 recorded incidents—a significant drop of 63% from a staggering 390 in 2022. While it’s true that Sweden had one of the highest rates of gun-related deaths in the European Union recently, the homicide rates have hit their lowest levels in nearly ten years.

A key strategy in this crackdown has been the establishment of “safe zones” in areas identified as high-risk for shootings and explosions. This allows police to conduct searches on individuals and vehicles without prior suspicion of wrongdoing, even in the case of minors.

Under the new regulations, police are now allowed to monitor minors’ online activities if there’s reason to suspect their involvement in serious crimes. Reports suggest that authorities can also identify children involved in gang activities based on certain indicators, like their choice of clothing.

There’s been backlash against these tactics, with civil rights activists claiming they disproportionately affect areas with larger immigrant communities—a major focus for law enforcement due to the vulnerability of immigrant youth to gangs like the Foxtrot network.

Interestingly, Stockholm Police Chief Karin Gottblad noted that many foreign-born residents have actually expressed support for the new policing measures, highlighting a sense of security they feel these changes bring. In contrast, those with Swedish backgrounds seem to be more critical of potential discrimination.

The Foxtrot Network, a well-known crime group in Sweden, has specifically targeted underage individuals for committing violent acts, taking advantage of legal loopholes regarding juvenile prosecution. To combat this, the Swedish government changed the law to lower the age of criminal responsibility from 15 to just 13.

In March 2025, the U.S. accused the Foxtrot Network of planning an attack on the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, further complicating the narrative surrounding this infamous group.
