Cheryl Hines Discusses Backlash Against Bobby Kennedy Jr.
Actress Cheryl Hines opened up recently about her marriage to podcaster Joe Rogan and the backlash faced by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. since he began his campaign as a Democratic candidate. She mentioned that this intense criticism has been overwhelming.
In a conversation with Rogan, they delved into the extreme elements of the political landscape. Rogan recalled how Bill Maher shared that he no longer speaks to comedian Jimmy Kimmel, despite being a liberal voice himself. “Bill Maher is very much on the left,” Rogan noted. “He hasn’t changed his perspectives over the years, yet he’s become somewhat isolated, which seems a bit absurd. Shouldn’t he, as a talk show host, be able to engage with any president?”
Hines resonated with Maher’s frustration, recalling a time when people reacted strongly to his dinner with President Trump. “When Bobby announced his presidential run as a Democrat, it sparked a lot of anger among people, particularly Democrats,” she reflected.
Hines shared her observations about the cruelty in politics. “It’s harsh. People just seem to be mean-spirited. Those kinds of individuals shouldn’t hold any power,” Rogan added. Hines echoed this sentiment, noting that the criticism intensified once Kennedy declared his candidacy. “They were targeting him all along, but it escalated dramatically,” she remarked.
Talking about her emotional state, she admitted feeling a sense of dread during the backlash. “It’s tough for Bobby, but sometimes it felt like, ‘Oh wow, how am I going to cope with all this?'” she said, adding that others in the political sphere often move forward quickly, even after harsh exchanges.
Reflecting on the contrasts between Hollywood tensions and political ones, Hines found the latter particularly jarring. “They can lash out and then switch to being friendly in an instant. I’m still adjusting to that dynamic,” she admitted, noting that while she may still feel frustrated, politicians seem to shrug it off as par for the course.
