Britney Spears Sells Music Catalog in Major Deal
Britney Spears has sold the rights to her well-known music catalog, as uncovered by a recent Page Six investigation.
The Grammy-winning artist finalized the sale to Primary Wave, a New York-based private music publisher, on December 30, as revealed in documents accessed by TMZ.
Insiders suggest this “game-changing deal” could be valued similarly to the $200 million transaction Justin Bieber made when he sold his catalog in 2022.
Sources indicate that Spears, who is 44, is feeling positive about the deal, celebrating with her sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
A representative for Spears did not provide immediate comments regarding the sale.
The transaction encompasses a number of her biggest hits, including tracks from her debut album, “…Baby One More Time,” released in 1999.
Notably, the sale also includes songs from her fourth studio album, “In The Zone,” which features the hit “Toxic.” This track earned her a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2005.
The agreement further covers many of Spears’ early 2000s hits, such as “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” “Oops!…I Did It Again,” “Everytime,” “Piece of Me,” “Hold It Against Me,” and “Gimme More.”
It’s becoming more common for artists to sell their music catalogs, with Spears joining a list of musicians like Stevie Nicks, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Dylan.
This new business venture comes after Spears had previously stated she would “never” return to the music scene, though she is reported to be assisting her son Jaden with his musical aspirations.
Spears had a lengthy sponsorship period from 2008 to 2021. Her last album, “Glory,” debuted in 2016, with her most recent collaboration, “Mind Your Business,” coming out in 2023. Her final performance took place during the “Piece of Me” tour in 2018 in Austin, Texas.
In recent discussions, a source mentioned that Spears has been actively helping her son connect with producers. She is proud of his talent and thinks he possesses a refreshing sound.
Spears shares her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
