Cameron Matheson’s Health Journey
Cameron Matheson recently shared insights into his health journey during an interview at the 33rd Annual Movie Guide Awards. The 56-year-old actor emphasized the importance of being attentive to one’s body, particularly regarding “digestion” and “energy.” He stated that this awareness has been crucial, saying, “It definitely saved my life.”
Matheson urged caution, advising not to jump to worst-case scenarios, but he highlighted the significance of regular testing and being aware of bodily changes. “If you have a little pain in your intestines, it doesn’t mean you have cancer—but it’s essential to get tested,” he mentioned. His own experience followed a diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma, a kidney cancer, back in 2019. Recently, he proudly announced on Instagram that he has been cancer-free for six years, noting that his kidney function has improved.
Reflecting on his cancer diagnosis, Matheson noted that it reshaped his understanding of his health. “I thought I was healthy, but I really wasn’t,” he admitted. “I learned that my body had certain issues; I struggle with detoxing, which requires me to be more conscious about my health.” This deeper insight led him to pursue a better understanding of wellness.
For years, Matheson faced gastrointestinal problems before an MRI revealed a tumor in his kidney. Fortunately, it hadn’t spread, and subsequent surgery removed the tumor along with 20 percent of the kidney. He stressed that while not everyone requires such drastic measures, it’s vital to listen to your body. He recommended paying attention to any unusual symptoms and consulting a doctor when necessary.
Well-known for his roles in “All My Children” and “General Hospital,” Matheson has become a recognizable figure, particularly in Hallmark films. He expressed his gratitude for his current projects, wishing that his faith had a greater influence on his past career choices. “I’ve made some poor decisions along the way, but I’m grateful to be able to spread positivity through the roles I take on now,” he said.
The Movie Guide Awards will be aired on “The Great American Family” on March 5th at 8 PM ET, which Matheson is eagerly anticipating, reflecting on how meaningful it is for him to engage in projects that contribute positivity to the world.
