WNBA player Rikea Jackson, identified as a victim in a domestic violence case involving Atlanta Falcons player James Pierce Jr., has expressed her willingness to testify if required.
Pierce, who nearly clinched the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year title, was arrested in Miami after allegedly fleeing from police and crashing his car following a domestic dispute with Jackson. Law enforcement reported the incident involved Jackson.
Jackson’s legal team has petitioned the court to expedite the case, stating the need for “all available resources and personnel” to ensure swift justice for her and the community in Florida.
In legal filings, they urged the court to close the matter promptly, emphasizing the urgency for the prosecution to move forward effectively.
Pierce is facing a range of serious charges, which include two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, and fleeing or evading police. Allegations indicate he attempted to evade capture, colliding with another vehicle that Jackson was driving, while also reportedly striking a police officer.
According to the victim’s statement, she noticed Pierce following her in a luxury vehicle. When she stopped at a traffic light, he allegedly tried to enter her car. In an effort to seek safety, she drove towards the Doral Police Department, but Pierce cut her off and collided with her car.
Law enforcement intervened, with officers reportedly forcing Pierce to the ground and aiming weapons at him in an effort to end the confrontation. However, he managed to re-enter his vehicle and drove away, allegedly hitting a police officer during his escape.
Following the incident, he was charged with multiple offenses, including resisting arrest. Pierce’s attorneys have stated he maintains his innocence and has appealed to the public to recognize that while allegations can significantly impact perceptions, they do not represent the entire narrative.
His legal counsel assured that they look forward to robustly defending him and expressed confidence in his positive contributions to both his team and the community. Pierce has posted bail set at $20,000 and was recently recognized at the NFL Honors event in California.
Jackson, currently playing for the Los Angeles Sparks, had a standout season, averaging 14.7 points and ranking ninth in MVP voting.
