Jill Zarin Fired from E! After Halftime Show Remarks
Jill Zarin has been let go by the studio behind E!’s “The Golden Life,” a reboot of “The Real Housewives of New York.” This decision reportedly came after she publicly criticized the Super Bowl halftime performance on social media.
Blink 49 Studios, the show’s production company, acted after Zarin shared a video on Instagram where she labeled Bad Bunny’s performance as “the worst halftime show ever.” In her comments, she suggested that there were “no white people” among the performers but later acknowledged singer Lady Gaga’s appearance. She expressed concerns about the show’s appropriateness for children, stating it was not suitable.
Reflecting her disappointment, Zarin mentioned, “It makes me so sad to think that the NFL is sold out.” These remarks were later deleted.
Following backlash, she was swiftly removed from the show before it even premiered.
According to her statements, Zarin perceived the halftime show as conveying an anti-ICE political message, which she outlined in an interview.
Blink 49 Studios issued a statement confirming Zarin’s dismissal, emphasizing their commitment to the series’ standards and values. They explained, “In light of recent public comments by Jill Zarin, we have decided not to move forward with her involvement in ‘The Golden Life.'”
Zarin later expressed that the decision felt rushed. In a media interview, she remarked, “They didn’t even give me a chance. I put it down right away.” She added, “People make mistakes. I’m human too.”
Bad Bunny’s performance sparked a divide among fans, receiving both admiration and harsh criticism. Notably, former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Super Bowl night to deride the performance. He characterized it as “absolutely awful” and questioned the content of the dancing, calling it “disgusting” for young audiences. He lamented, “This ‘show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our country, which is setting new standards and records every day.”
