Sturla Holm Lägglid Expresses Regret Over Public Affair Revelation
Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lägglid has shared her deep regrets regarding the revelation of her affair during a live TV interview this week.
After securing a bronze medal in the men’s 20km biathlon event on Tuesday, Lägglid became emotional while speaking with NRK, admitting to her relationship with her now ex-boyfriend.
However, it’s not merely the affair that troubles her.
“I really wish I hadn’t brought this personal story to light on such a celebratory day for Norwegian biathlon. Honestly, I’m not quite myself today, and my thoughts are a bit scattered. I owe an apology to Johan Olaf, who truly deserves the spotlight after winning the gold medal,” the 28-year-old expressed in a statement.
“I also feel for my ex-boyfriend, who’s been thrust into the media’s gaze without wanting to be there. I hope she’s managing well. While I can’t change what’s happened, I plan to move on and focus on the Olympics. I won’t be discussing this any further.”
In his post-race interview, Lägglid remarked, “This has been a really tough week.” Instead of celebrating his third-place win, he reflected on his experiences in life.
“About six months ago, I met someone truly special—just the most wonderful person you could imagine. But three months ago, I made a huge mistake and was unfaithful to my girlfriend,” he shared.
He also mentioned that he had confessed to his ex-girlfriend a week ago and, as of now, hasn’t received a response from her since his public disclosure.
“Perhaps she hasn’t seen the news yet. Hopefully, she will at a better time. I wish this doesn’t complicate her life further. I can’t say for sure how things will turn out,” he said. “I just hope there’s some light at the end of the tunnel for both of us and that she still has feelings for me.”
It seems forgiveness is tricky. An unnamed ex-girlfriend of Lägglid conveyed to a Norwegian tabloid that the skier had, in fact, violated her trust.
She expressed her discontent with having their private life made so public.
“Honestly, I never signed up for this. It’s painful being in the spotlight like this,” she stated. “We’ve communicated, and he knows how I feel.”
“To my family and friends who have stood by me during this challenging time, and to all who took a moment to think of me even without knowing my story, I am grateful.”
