Sen. Kennedy Critiques “Karen Factions” in Democratic Party

Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana) recently criticized what he termed the “Karen factions” within the Democratic Party, suggesting they are being unreasonable for delaying the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) budget due to their calls for immigration enforcement reform.

This comment came on the heels of a tense House hearing where Democrats aggressively questioned the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Kennedy compared the atmosphere to a “game room in a mental hospital.”

“This isn’t a rational process. The discussion we’re having isn’t really about effectively using taxpayer resources for the DHS,” Kennedy stated during his appearance on “The Faulkner Focus.”

He further remarked, “The Karen wing of the Democratic Party wants to defund ICE, similar to their earlier push to defund the police. We all know how that turned out,” adding that this faction seems to dominate the party’s direction.

Kennedy expressed doubt that even if Republicans met all the Democrats’ demands regarding ICE reform, they would still face challenges in passing a budget. He suggested that Democrats might face backlash from their party’s more radical elements if they supported funding for DHS.

As concerns around a potential government shutdown loom, Kennedy pointed out that additional closures would mainly affect DHS agencies, like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), but not ICE. He mentioned that immigration services are already receiving substantial funding from President Trump’s “Big and Beautiful Bill.”

The Democratic Party aims to curb ICE’s reach, especially following recent tragic events. Kennedy described the anti-ICE protests as “extremely bizarre,” acknowledging the protesters’ right to voice their opinions while asserting that some are fostering chaos, likening it to “an atmosphere that looks like there’s a freezer full of body parts in the basement.”

“Protesting is perfectly fine, but doing it violently? That’s not the way to go. Even a cocker spaniel knows that,” he added, urging protesters to avoid illegal actions.

Kennedy’s remarks underscore a deepening divide over immigration policy and the role of enforcement agencies like ICE within the current political landscape.
