Update on Nancy Guthrie Disappearance Investigation
A black glove discovered near Nancy Guthrie’s home in the Tucson area is currently being tested for DNA, representing a notable development in the investigation into her disappearance.
The glove was found approximately a mile and a half from her residence in the Catalina Foothills. However, it remains unclear if this glove is linked to a masked individual captured on the home’s surveillance footage. Some reports have also given inconsistent accounts about whether one or two gloves were discovered.
Authorities, including deputies and FBI agents, have been observed searching the desert brush along roads near the site, focusing their efforts on land about a mile away from Guthrie’s property. There were several police vehicles and a forensic truck on site as investigators combed through the cactus and rocky terrain. Officials have not revealed what triggered this latest search.
Additionally, investigators are looking for Ring doorbell footage from homes in the vicinity, specifically during two timeframes: between 9 p.m. and midnight on January 11 and from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on January 31. They believe this footage could be crucial to the case.
Developments in the Investigation
Just days ago, the FBI released a black-and-white image showing a person wearing a mask and a backpack on Guthrie’s porch the night she went missing. In the image, they appear to be reaching for the doorbell camera, but the footage does not reveal what occurred afterward.
After the release of these images, authorities briefly detained a man near the U.S.-Mexico border. While he was questioned, he was eventually released, and law enforcement also conducted searches in the area where he resides. Details about the reasons for his detention and any potential charges remain unclear.
Background on Nancy Guthrie
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home on January 31 and reported missing the following day. Investigators suspect she was taken against her will, and DNA testing confirmed that blood found on her balcony belonged to her.
Since the release of the surveillance images, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous tips from the public as the investigation escalates. FBI Director Kash Patel mentioned that investigators had been working to recover previously inaccessible footage relevant to the case.
Savannah Guthrie has shared these images, expressing her family’s belief that her mother is still alive. Both she and her brother have indicated a willingness to pay a ransom, but authorities have not verified if any ransom messages are authentic or if the investigators have made direct contact with the individual responsible.
Concerns about Nancy Guthrie’s health have also been raised, as she relies on several medications, which adds urgency to the ongoing search.
