Kamala Harris Praises Minneapolis Community for Immigration Resistance

Former Vice President Kamala Harris spoke recently about the resistance observed in Minneapolis regarding immigration enforcement, calling it a “very beautiful example” for the U.S. She made these comments during her book tour at the Macon City Auditorium in Georgia, emphasizing the need for a collective stand against intolerance. “There are moments,” she said, “when we have to be intolerant and say we’re not like that.”

During her speech, Harris highlighted the community’s response in Minneapolis. “What we’ve seen… is a very beautiful example,” she noted. She described people in the neighborhood coming together, using whistles to alert others of potential threats and recording events on their phones to keep each other safe. It was a striking display of community solidarity in uncertain times. Around 300 attendees were present for the speech, which lasted over an hour.

At one point, Harris stressed the importance of reclaiming power in light of widespread fear and anxiety. “We have to take our power back,” she asserted. She suggested that, as time passes, more individuals may reach a breaking point, saying, “I’m just not going to tolerate this.” Additionally, she shared her belief in the need for advocacy against various forms of injustice, stating, “We teach intolerance for many good reasons, and we have to maintain that.”

While she never explicitly named Donald Trump, she referenced him multiple times in her speech, often using terms like “this man” and “this administration.”

Harris concluded her talk by reiterating that it’s crucial to stand firm for deeply held principles and ideals. In a time of division, her words served as a call to action for those who feel compelled to defend their beliefs.
