Texas Governor Critiques Minnesota Democrats on States’ Rights

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called out Democrats for “hypocrisy” regarding claims of states’ rights in Minnesota, especially after the Biden administration’s actions towards state border protection faced heavy criticism and lawsuits.

“Hypocrisy really fits here, because suddenly Minnesota is asserting states’ rights,” Abbott remarked in an interview with Fox News Digital.

In 2021, Abbott initiated Operation Lone Star, deploying state troopers and the National Guard to the border and financing barrier construction to combat illegal crossings. At that point, he was sued by the Biden administration. Abbott contends that Texas’s efforts differ markedly from the actions in Minnesota and other sanctuary states.

“Texas was asserting states’ rights in the context of trying to enforce federal immigration laws that the Biden administration opted not to. In contrast, Minnesota appears to be in chaos, not enforcing the law but actively hindering law enforcement,” he elaborated.

Abbott has emphasized the necessity of maintaining law and order. He noted that illegal immigration in Texas has decreased by more than 85%, and fentanyl-related deaths have fallen by over 40%. “My responsibility as governor is to secure our border effectively,” he stated, accusing the Biden administration of neglecting security, which led to an influx of criminal elements in Texas.

Looking ahead, Abbott is campaigning for re-election, aiming to position Texas as a prime destination for individuals seeking economic opportunities and personal freedoms. A key focus of his agenda includes reducing property taxes in Texas through proposed reforms that would limit local government spending, require voter approval for tax hikes, and potentially eliminate school district property taxes for homeowners.

While some Democrats, like Senate candidate Rep. Jasmine Crockett, suggest that Texas is moving toward a Democratic majority, Abbott is confident in the Republicans’ chances in upcoming elections.

Abbott said, “If we remain engaged and mobilize our voters, we stand to win these elections, but it’s crucial to highlight the differences between us and the Democrats.” He criticized Democrats for their stance on property taxes and policing and reaffirmed Republicans’ commitment to enforcing immigration laws.

He mentioned that this election cycle, he aims to proactively challenge Democrats in historically blue areas, such as Harris County, home to Houston.

Abbott has highlighted his serious approach to every election, asserting, “We fight against Democrats who believe in measures that could jeopardize public safety. New legislation was introduced in Texas to address instances where low bail has led to repeat offenses.” He added, “Our success hinges on our commitment to economic and personal freedoms,” noting that many have moved to Texas seeking an escape from what they perceive as chaos in other states.

In summary, Abbott expressed a continual battle for justice and adherence to the rule of law in Texas, regardless of the challenges posed by other states.
