2018 Boston Red Sox’s Team Chemistry and Controversy
The Boston Red Sox of 2018 are often hailed as one of the greatest teams in baseball history, a remarkable achievement that certainly involved a lot of effort to foster strong chemistry among players while ensuring everyone stayed safe.
Brock Holt, a former player, recently appeared on the “Section 10” podcast to share thoughts on Rafael Devers’ exit from the team. He also touched on the vital role of clubhouse dynamics.
Holt mentioned that there were “one or two” individuals on the 2018 squad who were problematic. Thankfully, they were released fairly quickly.
One player, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed, allegedly made a shocking threat, saying he would shoot teammates. Holt recalled, “We were in Tampa, stretching in a circle. Someone stood up and said, ‘You know what? Tomorrow I’m going to bring a gun and kill you all.’” He then looked directly at Holt and added, “You’ll be the first.”
Holt expressed concern, and not just disbelief. He said, “He might have been joking, but I couldn’t take it lightly.”
Despite these unusual circumstances, the Red Sox managed an impressive 108 victories, overcoming both the New York Yankees and the defending champion Houston Astros before clinching the title against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Yet, the team has faced some issues lately after reports surfaced about their use of game feeds in the replay room to decode signs while players were on second base. Notably, it seems this wasn’t on the radar of manager Alex Cora, the coaching staff, or most players.
In an interesting turn, Cora parted ways with the team for a season due to his link to a previous sign-stealing scandal from when he served as a bench coach for the Astros, but he was reinstated a year later.
