Update on Nancy Guthrie Case: FBI Shares Profile and New Leads but Kidnapper Remains at Large

Search for Nancy Guthrie Continues on Day 13

The effort to locate Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie’s mother, moved into its 13th day on Friday, with authorities following new leads, although her captor remains unidentified.

On Thursday, the FBI shared a profile of the suspect, identified in security camera footage as a man between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-10, described as having an “average build” and carrying a distinctive black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack. In the footage, he was wearing a ski mask and gloves, and it was noted that he had disabled his doorbell prior to the abduction.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after she failed to arrive at a friend’s home for a virtual church service. She was last seen on January 31 and is thought to have been taken shortly after midnight.

The FBI released a color image of a similar Ozark Trail backpack in hopes it would aid the investigation. This backpack is exclusively sold at Walmart.

In another development, the FBI has raised the reward to $100,000 for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts or the apprehension and conviction of those behind her disappearance.

Details concerning her captor emerged through forensic analysis of the doorbell camera footage by the FBI’s operational technology division. According to the agency, they have received over 13,000 calls since the investigation began.

“We hope that this updated information will help focus the public’s attention on what we are receiving,” remarked the FBI.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office is urging local residents to submit any security footage that may include “vehicles, pedestrian traffic, or anything else unusual” from January 1 to February 2. This may signify that her captors had been surveying the area for some time before her disappearance.

Gloves found at the scene have also been sent for analysis; it’s unclear if they belong to the suspect.

This profile of the kidnapper coincided with the release of a video and images recovered from the cloud-linked Nest doorbell camera.

On Thursday, Savannah Guthrie shared a nostalgic video of her mother, expressing hope in her post: “Our wonderful mom. We will never give up on her. Thank you for your prayers and hope.”
