Liberals Quickly Threaten Legal Action After Trump Eliminates Their Favorite Regulation

Environmental Groups and California Governor Threaten Lawsuit Over EPA Decision

Several environmental organizations, along with California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, announced plans on Thursday to potentially sue the Trump administration in response to its repeal of key climate change regulations.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) confirmed that it has revoked the endangered status related to greenhouse gases (GHGs) under the Clean Air Act (CAA). President Donald Trump hailed this decision as “the greatest deregulatory move in American history,” arguing it could save Americans over $1 trillion.

Newsom stated, “California will fight this lawlessness in court,” while the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) expressed its intention to challenge the reversal. Other environmental organizations, including the Natural Resources Defense Council, have also signaled plans to take legal action against this decision, with more lawsuits anticipated, according to various reports.

EDF President Fred Krupp emphasized the importance of the evidence that supports this challenge, saying, “We will continue to work with everyone who wants to build a better, safer, and more prosperous future.”

The EPA clarified that this decision only affects GHG emissions and does not alter the regulation of traditional air pollutants. They added that the repeal was meant to align their regulatory framework with what they believe is the correct interpretation of the CAA, which they argue does not permit the EPA to regulate GHG emissions from new vehicles.

Energy policy experts have previously noted how endangerment findings served as a significant basis for implementing many stringent climate regulations that could impact consumer choice and affordability.
