Fierce Midair Brawl Erupts Between Two Jets
A chaotic scene unfolded Thursday as passengers on two flights traveling from Turkey to the UK got into a physical altercation midair. This incident reportedly led to the plane being diverted to Belgium.
The flight, LS896, was en route from Antalya, Turkey, to Manchester, England, when it was redirected due to what the airline termed the “alarming behavior” of two disruptive passengers aboard. According to a representative, the men were handed over to police in Brussels, allowing the flight to proceed to Manchester afterward.
Footage that has circulated online illustrates passengers exchanging punches amid screams from other travelers.
Details surrounding the cause of the conflict remain unclear at this time. However, witnesses indicated that a male passenger had made “racist” remarks during the flight. One traveler shared their account, stating that the comments were loud enough for a select few to hear but not the entire cabin.
Witnesses noted that tensions heightened when the man, reported to have been drinking, became aggressive after finding out he couldn’t purchase cigarettes on the flight.
Flight attendants attempted to calm the situation, but eventually, it escalated into a physical fight. After the plane diverted to Brussels, authorities removed the two passengers, allowing the flight to resume and land in Manchester around 10 PM.
Jet2 announced that the two men have been placed on the airline’s no-fly list. In a statement to the media, the airline emphasized their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding disruptive behavior, expressing disappointment that other passengers had to experience such a situation.
