Christian Singles Struggle with Modern Dating
In today’s dating landscape, many Christians find themselves feeling isolated and overwhelmed by loneliness. The rise of dating apps seems to have replaced traditional avenues for forming connections. Informal texting has taken a front seat over genuine face-to-face interactions, and the idea of commitment is often viewed as something that’s limiting and old-fashioned.
So, what should single Christian men and women do?
This is the central question that podcaster and author Christian Bevier tackles in a special Valentine’s Day episode of “Relatable.”
After completing her college education, Bevier discovered that she was in a situation many young Christian individuals face today. The desire for marriage was strong, but a clear path seemed elusive.
She noted that church advice often felt superficial, typically boiling down to, “Find someone who’s attractive and loves Jesus.”
At just 21 years old, Bevier decided to take matters into her own hands, making a significant change that would ultimately impact her life. She bought a brown leather Bible online, declaring it to be her future husband’s. Every day, she committed to praying for this unknown man.
While many people pray for their future partner, Bevier took it a step further by integrating Scripture into her prayers.
“I focused on Timothy and the Psalms, looking at the qualities of biblical figures like Titus and David, and prayed those for my future husband,” she shared.
“I really began interceding for someone I had yet to meet.”
Fast forward two years, on her wedding day, she gifted her husband this specially annotated Bible. Shortly after their wedding, Arden read through the letters and prayers she had penned to him.
“He looked at me and said, ‘You’ve been praying for me this entire time. I was going through tough patches then,’” she recalled.
“When our prayers are rooted in the Holy Spirit and grounded in Scripture, they possess a power that’s often unrecognized—not just by us, but by the world as well. It’s incredibly poignant.”
Currently, Bevier uses her platform to encourage other Christian women, particularly those who are single, to understand their identity in Christ, pray intentionally for their relationships, heal from past wounds, and fully rely on God in their love lives.
Her podcast “Dear Future Husband” and books explore these themes further. For more insights, you might want to consider checking them out.
