Florida Woman and Teen Babysitter Charged After Shooting Incident
A 29-year-old woman from Florida and her 15-year-old male babysitter are facing accusations of shooting at the woman’s car following a conflict that unfolded on Facebook earlier this week.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred outside a home in Deltona on Tuesday night, arising from an argument between the female suspect, identified as Inez Yonzik, and the victim, as detailed by WESH TV.
The conflict escalated after the victim expressed anger about a photo that Yonzik posted on social media, leading her to remove it and make negative comments. Following this, the victim decided to confront Yonzik in person by driving to her residence on Hemingway Drive.
Upon arrival, authorities say that Yonzik and the babysitter allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim and fired multiple shots into her vehicle.
Details from WESH reveal that the victim managed to drive off but later discovered a flat tire. Interestingly, instead of calling the police immediately, she opted to call for roadside assistance, had the flat repaired, and then headed home. When officers eventually met her, they discovered bullet holes in her car’s windows.
Investigators noted it took several hours for the police to apprehend Yonzik and the boy at their home. During the search, they found marijuana and cocaine scattered throughout the property.
Additionally, officers located shell casings from a .380 caliber and a 9 mm firearm in the garage. An arrest report indicates that Yonzik admitted to firing at the victim’s vehicle.
Yonzik now faces several charges, including firing into an occupied vehicle, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute near a particular area, possession of cocaine, and various other drug-related offenses. As per the latest jail records, she remains in custody as of Friday afternoon.
The babysitter, meanwhile, has denied firing the weapon. However, he has been charged with multiple offenses including firing into an occupied vehicle and trafficking cocaine, among others. It’s worth noting he is already on probation for an unrelated drug possession charge.
On a lighter note, the sheriff’s office received over a thousand comments related to the incident on social media, with many users expressing skepticism about the appropriateness of letting a teenager with a criminal background serve as a babysitter. Some even questioned the practicality of having a 15-year-old babysitter at 5:30 a.m.
- One commenter quipped, “It’s definitely a babysitter (lol).”
- Another added, “That’s not ‘babysitting’… ”
- “Is he really the babysitter?” seemed to echo the thoughts of many.
- “Who would ask a 15-year-old with a criminal record to babysit at their house at 5:30 a.m.?” another user pondered.
- Yet another chimed in, “A 15-year-old babysitter is home at 5 a.m.?”
