Wiz Khalifa recently shared some heartbreaking news on X, announcing the passing of his father, Lawrence W. Thomas. He stated, “Today my father has decided not to wake up.”
He went on to express, “I will always love him, miss him, and be grateful for all he taught me. Like a true yogi, he went out in peace and on his own time. I love you forever, Lawrence W. Thomas.”
Mr. Thomas was 63 years old.
In a follow-up post, Khalifa wrote, “Although my father’s death was sudden, it makes me so happy to see so many people love and respect him. I know he was proud of the positive impact he left on this earth. He was literally everything he ever wanted.”
He recalled their last conversation, where his father expressed pride in Khalifa’s work and encouraged him to continue making films. The artist, who is 38 years old, also thanked his followers for their condolences, noting their support during such a difficult time.
Khalifa took to Instagram to share nostalgic memories, posting a series of photos of him with his father. In one touching photo, he reminisced about helping his father on a swing, simply captioning it, “I love you, big guy.” Another showed him with his brother Dorien, who passed away in 2017, with a comment reflecting on their reunion.
Over the years, Khalifa has spoken warmly of his father, recalling how Thomas set up a recording studio in Pittsburgh, which became instrumental in launching his music career. “I first started rapping in second grade,” he shared, describing how his environment, despite financial challenges, sparked his passion for music.
The rapper is the father of two children: a 12-year-old son named Sebastian from his marriage to Amber Rose, and a one-year-old daughter, Cadence, with girlfriend Amy Aguilar. He noted how fatherhood has reshaped his perspective, revealing a deeper understanding of his purpose in life.
Khalifa has expressed his goal of enriching his role as a father. “It’s really rewarding,” he reflected, appreciating the love and connection he shares with his children.
