Inquiry into Democrat Ilhan Omar's husband could extend to Somalia

Investigation into Tim Mynett’s Business Ventures

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, is calling for an international investigation into Tim Mynett, the spouse of Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota, and his unprofitable business dealings.

Comer has requested that the House Ethics Committee examine Mynett’s activities in nations like Somalia, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Reports indicate that this push follows a rapid increase in Omar’s net worth—from $51,000 to an astonishing $30 million—attributed to her husband’s two business ventures. Omar has countered these claims, asserting that accusations about her wealth are exaggerated and that conservatives are unjustly targeting her, according to recent coverage.

Mynett’s investment firm, Rose Lake Capital, is reportedly interested in creating solar panels in Africa. Notably, one of his primary business partners allegedly received a $10,699 flight ticket to Dubai after bilateral discussions.

As reported, Comer’s committee initiated an inquiry through a letter sent on February 5, demanding Mynett provide “all documents and communications” relevant to any travel connected to business solicitations in the UAE, Somalia, and Kenya, particularly involving Rose Lake Capital and the defunct California winery eStCru LLC. The request specified details including travel dates and purposes for each trip.

Mynett has until Thursday to respond to the inquiry.

Reports also mention that Comer pledged in January to investigate Omar’s increasing wealth amidst ongoing allegations of significant fraud affecting the Somali community in Minnesota.

After Omar criticized former President Donald Trump, Comer remarked that she “needs to keep her mouth shut.”

Trump has made controversial statements implying that Omar should face jail time or be deported back to Somalia. In one of his posts, he remarked on a supposed scam involving billions in Minnesota, criticizing both Omar and state officials for their perceived failures. He suggested that not only should she face legal consequences, but that she could even help rejuvenate her homeland.

In additional remarks, he reiterated that “Scammer” Ilhan Omar and her associates should indeed be in prison, asserting that the state’s governor should be held responsible for incompetence in light of these issues.
