Guy Fieri’s Surprise Food Avoidances

Guy Fieri, the well-known celebrity chef and Food Network personality, has made a name for himself by celebrating a variety of bold American flavors. His journeys on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” have featured everything from beloved greasy spoon dishes to unique regional delicacies.

However, even Fieri, who often calls himself the Mayor of Flavortown, has certain culinary limits. Some of the foods he steers clear of might catch you off guard, especially since they often show up in everyday meals.

Over the years, the 58-year-old Emmy Award-winning chef has shared his culinary dislikes. Here’s a look at six of the most unexpected foods he avoids.

1. Ghost Pepper

Though Fieri is known for his affinity for spicy dishes, ghost pepper, also known as Bhut Jolokia, is one he cannot handle. With a staggering heat level of around 1 million Scoville units, it’s considered one of the hottest chili peppers globally. During a segment of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” he approached ghost pepper hot sauce with caution, humorously claiming that it could “eat your soul.”

2. Peanut Butter Hamburger

The idea of slathering a cheeseburger with peanut butter might seem enticing. Still, it’s something Fieri struggled with during a visit to an Indiana diner. After trying it, he candidly admitted, “It’s not fun at all…I want to go home.” However, he did have a better experience when he encountered a similar dish in California, acknowledging it worked better the second time.

3. Cow Brain

Organ meats definitely make his no-go list. Fieri tried fried beef brains on his show, and the texture was clearly an issue for him. Mixed with eggs, this preparation combined two foods he isn’t fond of, leading to a rather uncomfortable tasting experience.

4. Haggis

Scotland’s national dish, haggis, which contains sheep’s heart, liver, and lungs, is also off the table for Fieri. He sampled beer-battered haggis balls once, and while he did find them well-seasoned, the dish ultimately reflects the kind of organ-heavy foods he’s never quite embraced.

5. Liver and Onions

Though he didn’t specifically mention liver, Fieri indicated that he “couldn’t even be in the same room” with it. This dish has often been labeled as one of America’s least favorite, reinforcing that he shares the common distaste for it. Historically, liver was considered a delicacy, but it seems it hasn’t found a place in Fieri’s kitchen.

6. Eggs

Finally, surprisingly, Fieri is also not a fan of plain eggs. He uses them in various recipes, but when it comes to dishes where eggs are the highlight, he tends to shy away. In a Food Network clip, he referred to scrambled eggs as “liquid chicken,” a remark that reflects some unpleasant childhood experiences he had with boiled eggs.
