Review of 'GOAT': Stephen Curry, Jelly Roll, and a star-studded cast in an entertaining animated movie

“Goat” Trailer

The trailer for Sony Pictures Animation’s “GOAT” features the voices of Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry, David Harbour, and Jelly Roll.

Beyond “Zootopia 2,” a new contender for the animated throne is here—a goat.

“GOAT” is the latest film from Sony Pictures Animation, spotlighting Will Harris, a goat voiced by Caleb McLaughlin, known from “Stranger Things.” He aspires to become a “lower ball” player—a more intense version of basketball—despite being a smaller animal, considering himself a “medium-sized” player.

As a kid, Will has looked up to Jett Fillmore (Gabrielle Union), a standout player for the local Thorns, who have been struggling for years.

Wanting to leave his delivery job at Whiskers’ Diner, Will challenges Mane Attraction (Aaron Pierre), the MVP of a rival team. Although he doesn’t win, his performance catches the eye of team owner Florence Everson (Jennifer Lewis), who aims to drum up excitement for the Thorns. The Jets, however, are skeptical about Will joining, doubting his size and skills.

Following this, tension arises between Will and Jett, two of the Thorns’ six players. The rest of the team includes Lenny Williamson, a rapping giraffe played by Stephen Curry, Olivia Burke (Nicola Coughlan), an obsessional ostrich, Archie Everhard (David Harbour), a dedicated father rhino, and the quirky Komodo dragon Modo (Nick Kroll). Their very unhelpful coach, Dennis (Patton Oswalt), adds to the chaos.

Joining this talented voice cast are notable names like Jennifer Hudson, Cherie Cora, Andrew Santino, Wayne Knight, Adam Pally, and music star Jelly Roll, along with cameos from basketball legends such as Dwyane Wade and Kevin Love.

Directors Tyree Dillihay and Adam Rosette, alongside the creative minds of Nicholas Curcio and Peter Chiarelli, bring this story to life. The film also has Stephen Curry credited as a producer.

Verdict

“GOAT” may not claim the title of the greatest of all time, but it’s shaping up to be a strong contender among animated films in 2026. It offers a fun experience for families, filled with humor and uplifting narratives.
