Olympic supporters anxious about 'Quad God' Ilia Malinin's troubling TikTok updates

Concern is growing among fans for Ilia Marin, who shared a troubling video on TikTok following his disappointing performance in the free skate at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 21-year-old American figure skating star, often referred to as the “God of the Quad” because of his exceptional quadruple jumps, was seen as a favorite for gold in the men’s singles event. However, he stumbled twice and ended up in eighth place, missing the podium entirely.

Marin, who had an impressive streak of 14 consecutive victories, including two world championships, struggled to hold back tears on the ice and openly reflected on his disappointing outing.

“I was done with it,” he conveyed to NBC.

After his performance, Marin expressed bewilderment about his situation. He mentioned that overwhelming emotions and memories, coupled with the considerable pressure of his first Olympic experience, disrupted his focus.

In the wake of the loss, Marin’s mental health seems to have taken a hit, as he’s been sharing increasingly candid videos on his TikTok account, revealing a more vulnerable side.

“Sometimes I wish something bad would happen to me and I wouldn’t have to do it,” one viewer remarked.

Another comment read: “Mom, your little boy is tired.”

Marin also reposted a video from an account called “Healing Letters,” where individuals express their thoughts in written messages.

“When I get home and walk into my room, my eyes start swimming because no one knows how hard I’m working,” was one of the messages shared.

This frankness caught the attention of his 365,000 followers, many of whom rallied to support Marin during this tough period.

One fan wrote: “Well done, Ilia, you are incredible!!!!! I love you.”

Another added, “Ilia: (I hope he’s okay…)”

“You’re still a champion, Ilia Marin. Just one outcome doesn’t define your talent or strength. No matter where you place, we’re proud of you. Keep kicking on. Your moment to shine is always ahead. You are the best,” expressed another supporter.

Mikhail Shaidlov from Kazakhstan achieved a personal best of 291.58 points, securing his country’s first gold medal of the tournament.

In contrast, Marin, who typically scores in the 300s, managed only 264.49 points, placing him eighth after the unfortunate falls.
