Annika Belshaw Disqualified from 2026 Winter Olympics

American ski jumper Annika Belshaw faced disqualification from the 2026 Winter Olympics, similar to Austria’s Daniel Chofenig. Belshaw was removed from the women’s large hill event because her skis were over a centimeter longer than the regulations allow. She had successfully advanced through the preliminary rounds, earning her spot in the finals, but her Olympic dreams were suddenly cut short.

The disqualification likely dashed her chances for a podium finish. Gold and silver medals went to Norway’s Anna Odeen Strom and Eilin Maria Kvandal, respectively, while Slovenia’s Nika Plevc took home the bronze.

At just 23 years old, Belshaw was making her Olympic debut. She had previously been named the 2022 Ski Jumper of the Year by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Federation and competed in the normal hill event, where she finished in 21st place.

For the mixed team normal hill event, the United States secured a seventh-place finish. In a parallel case, Chofenig from Austria was disqualified for a similar infraction; his boots exceeded the height limit by 4 mm.

Reflecting on the situation, Chofenig remarked about the training shoes he had used, saying, “They weren’t great, but I kept them anyway. I guess I should have checked the size.” This situation highlights just how easily athletes can find themselves in trouble due to technicalities, no matter how experienced they might be.
