Tyreek Hill’s Status with Dolphins Uncertain
Tyreek Hill is set to be a prominent name as a free agent this March, with reports suggesting that the Miami Dolphins are looking to trade him.
It appears that Hill may not fit into the team’s plans for the upcoming 2026 season. Alongside him, Miami is also expected to release several players, including star pass rusher Bradley Chubb, offensive lineman James Daniels, and wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikin.
Hill, who will turn 32 on March 1, is still recovering from a serious injury he sustained during a game against the New York Jets on September 29. That injury required surgery to fix significant damage to his left knee, which included a torn ACL.
The Dolphins originally acquired Hill in a major trade with the Kansas City Chiefs before the 2022 season, where he signed a contract extension that could be worth up to $120 million over four years. This contract made him the highest-paid player in his position at that time, with a cap hit of $51 million for the 2026 season.
Throughout his time with Miami, Hill showcased impressive performance. However, his off-field challenges made headlines, too.
He was named an All-Pro in his first two seasons with the team, recording notable stats like 340 catches for 4,733 yards and 27 touchdowns over 54 games. But he hasn’t experienced the same postseason success that he enjoyed with the Chiefs.
Additionally, Hill’s personal life has also seen its share of drama, including a detainment by law enforcement following an incident in 2024 outside Hard Rock Stadium.
As for his future in football, Hill shared recently that he hasn’t made a concrete decision about playing beyond the 2025 season. “It really depends on how I feel and my mindset later,” he mentioned on a podcast with his former teammate Terron Armstead. He expressed a love for the game but acknowledged the mental and physical toll it can take.
“I need to discuss this with my family. The decision, whatever it is, will be influenced by several factors,” he noted, adding that he feels pressured and doesn’t have the luxury to just enjoy the present moment right now.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ management is undergoing changes after the offseason, with the team letting go of head coach Mike McDaniel and bringing in Jeff Hafley. John-Eric Sullivan has also taken on the role of general manager, succeeding Chris Grier.
