Rubio’s Message on U.S. Immigration Rights

Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently emphasized to immigrants worldwide that they have no inherent right to enter the United States.

During a press conference alongside Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest, he noted that the Trump administration is primarily concerned with aligning immigration with national interests.

Rubio stressed the need for foreigners to recognize that obtaining a visa is not guaranteed.

“My role at the State Department involves identifying individuals who are considered visitors to the U.S. If we find that someone’s presence poses a risk to our national security or foreign policy, we will revoke their visas,” Rubio stated. “That’s our objective, and we’ve done this many times over the past year.”

“Visas are not a right. I’ve mentioned this numerous times, yet some people still struggle with it. Let me clarify: No one possesses an inherent right to a visa; there is no constitutional entitlement to it,” he added.

A visa simply allows entry into our country as a visitor. Whether you’re a student, journalist, or tourist, if you engage in actions that oppose our national interest or security, we will take action to revoke your visa. Honestly, if we had known of your intentions, we likely wouldn’t have issued one in the first place.”

In the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term, the State Department canceled over 100,000 visas, including around 8,000 for international students and approximately 2,500 for those who violated laws.

Moreover, the State Department has halted visa issuance to 75 countries known for sending a significant number of welfare-dependent immigrants to the U.S. These nations include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Burma, Cambodia, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, Uganda, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Yemen, and many others.
