Danish Shipping Firm Maersk Reports Successful Passage Through Strait of Hormuz

Danish shipping giant Maersk has announced that one of its vessels successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz with support from the U.S. military.

Maersk Line Limited (MLL) shared that the U.S.-flagged ship, named alliance fairfax, which belongs to its Virginia-based subsidiary, Farrell Lines, left the Persian Gulf on Sunday, escorted by U.S. military forces. The journey was completed without any incidents, and all crew members are reported to be safe.

According to reports from Maritime magazine gCaptain, the U.S. military reached out to Maersk to offer protection for the ship. The company expressed gratitude for the professionalism and cooperation of the military in facilitating safe navigation.

The captain noted in a statement that after thorough planning and coordination with the U.S. military, both shoreside and shipboard leadership approved the transit. Subsequently, the ship left the Persian Gulf under military escort.

The alliance fairfax is one of five U.S.-flagged vessels known to have been in the Strait of Hormuz at the onset of the conflict with Iran in late February.

On Sunday, President Trump announced a military operation called “Project Freedom,” which commenced Monday. This initiative aims to assist vessels stuck in the Strait of Hormuz and restore navigation freedom amid attacks from the Iranian regime on commercial ships in this critical trade route, through which a significant portion of global oil trade and large shipments of fuel and fertilizer transit.

Shortly after, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed via social media that two U.S.-flagged commercial ships had safely exited the Strait of Hormuz, thanks to the efforts of Project Freedom. CENTCOM also mentioned ongoing naval operations to maintain a blockade against Iran.

As of now, CENTCOM has not identified the two U.S.-flagged vessels that have left the strait and has yet to confirm whether one of those mentioned earlier is affiliated with alliance fairfax.

President Trump cautioned the Iranian regime that if they were to attack U.S. vessels involved in Project Freedom, it would face severe repercussions. This warning coincided with reports of U.S. military forces destroying six Iranian boats that were targeting commercial ships in the strait. CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper explained that U.S. forces swiftly neutralized the threat while ensuring the safety of both military and commercial vessels.

Admiral Cooper stated that the U.S. military is focused on assisting the global community in restoring trade flows, while expressing concern over the Revolutionary Guards’ attempts to intimidate commercial shipping. During a media call on Monday, he emphasized that the U.S. holds a distinct advantage over Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, with significant firepower, including AH-64 Apache and MH-60 Seahawk helicopters, deployed to counter any threats.
