Tyreek Hill, who has often hinted at retiring early, finds himself released by the Dolphins at 31. It seems he’s not ready to walk away just yet.
In an Instagram post following his departure, Hill stated, “The journey doesn’t end here,” referring to the Dolphins’ decision to let him go as part of a roster overhaul.
He mentioned, “Every chapter of my life has taught me something. This game has shown me leadership, resilience, and, most importantly, gratitude. My love for this game is indescribable. This offseason, for the first time ever, the cheetah is out and locked in all the time. I’m focused.”
He concluded with, “…The Cheetah isn’t slowing down. Ever. So, for those of you wondering what’s next…just wait.”
The eight-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion expressed appreciation for the Dolphins and their fans after spending four years with the team, which began with a surprising trade in 2022.
Sadly, his last season with Miami ended abruptly after just four games. Hill suffered a significant knee injury, tearing his left ACL and dislocating his knee during a Monday Night Football clash against the Jets.
Moreover, his performance dipped as the Dolphins dealt with inconsistent quarterback play. In the past two years, Hill recorded only 959 yards in 2024 and just 265 in 2025 before his injury.
“From the moment I arrived in Miami, I felt the love,” Hill wrote in his Instagram message. “You believed in me. You pushed me. You celebrated with me. These past few years have been the most meaningful of my life and career.”
He also mentioned, “To the brothers who came and went in the locker room, thank you for the victories, the L’s, the memories, and the sacrifices. Together we built something special for the city of Miami.”
However, Hill’s tenure in Miami wasn’t without controversy, including several off-field incidents.
In April 2025, police were called to a domestic dispute involving Hill, although no charges were brought against him.
Later, in September, his estranged wife accused him of eight instances of domestic violence during their 17-month marriage, allegations dating back to January 2024. Hill denied these claims, calling them a “shakedown” intended to create negative press.
The decision to release Hill along with edge rusher Bradley Chubb marks just the beginning for new head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager John-Eric Sullivan as they look to rebuild a squad that finished 7-10 last season. A significant decision regarding quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is also on the horizon.
