Remembering Reverend Jesse Jackson
President Donald Trump shared a nostalgic message on Truth Social on Tuesday, reflecting on the life and legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson, who recently passed away at 84.
In his post, Trump mentioned, “I knew him well before he became president. He was a very personable, spirited and good man with ‘street smarts.’ He was very sociable and truly loved people!” His comments came as he expressed his condolences for Jackson’s death.
Trump also spoke about his support for Jackson, saying, “Despite the fact that I have been wrongly and consistently called a racist by the radical left’s thugs and lunatics and the entire Democratic Party, I was always happy to be able to help Jesse.” He recalled providing office space for Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition at the Trump Building, making heavy contributions to criminal justice reform and funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Trump further described Jackson as “a force of nature,” noting his significant role in the election of Barack Obama, a figure Jackson had complex feelings about. In closing, he sent his deepest condolences to Jackson’s family, acknowledging that Jackson will be missed.
In a statement, Jackson’s family referred to him as a “servant leader.” They reflected on his commitment not just to family, but also to the marginalized and overlooked populations worldwide. The family highlighted, “We shared him with the world, and in return the world became part of our extended family. His unwavering belief in justice, equality, and love uplifted millions of people.” They urged others to honor Jackson’s legacy by continuing the fight for the values he championed.
