New video reveals important information about iconic Michael Jordan moment at Daytona 500

A recent video clip stirred up quite a buzz regarding Michael Jordan’s interaction at the Daytona 500, especially following Tyler Reddick’s win.

The footage showed Jordan wrapping his arms around Reddick’s son, which triggered varying reactions online. Social media users were quick to form opinions, but a follow-up video added crucial context. In this second clip, Reddick’s son was seen celebrating and receiving an ice shower before Jordan stepped in.

This context seemed to back up what many people were suggesting all along.

“The boy got a massive bucket of ice dumped on him, and it stuck to his shirt,” one user noted. “Michael was just helping him shake it off, nothing inappropriate going on.”

Radio host Bubba Clem came to Jordan’s defense as well, pointing out that while the footage may look questionable at first, closer inspection reveals the child was simply dealing with the ice. “It’s clear he’s helping a kid out; it doesn’t look good at first glance but it makes sense when you look again,” he said.

One producer echoed this, stating, “Sure, it looks shocking initially, but it’s likely he’s just trying to retrieve something from the kid’s shirt.”

As of Tuesday, Jordan had yet to comment on the incident, but besides that, it was a day filled with joy for the NBA legend.

Reddick led almost immediately and ultimately clinched the victory, marking the first Daytona 500 win for 23XI Racing. “It feels like a championship win, though I guess I won’t really know until I get the ring,” Jordan remarked.

Yet, throughout the celebration, the unexpected moment between Jordan and Reddick’s son captivated viewers. The video racked up about 1.7 million views, quickly becoming a hot topic.

Lots of users criticized Jordan’s actions, with many deeming them inappropriate. One comment on social media read, “I can’t think of a single scenario where this would be okay.” Others echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that Jordan’s behavior was unsuitable.

Despite the online backlash, Jordan and his team were relishing the win. NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin noted how this victory brought immense joy to the basketball icon. “He truly loves his race team,” Hamlin explained to reporters. “I told them they carry the responsibility of bringing joy to someone like Michael Jordan, and they do it well.”

Reddick, who only led for one lap before securing the win, called the experience surreal. “The way it all happened is just unbelievable—Daytona is always chaotic,” he shared. “I was so excited I could hardly speak. Becoming the Daytona 500 champion was something I never imagined.”

Reflecting on the journey, he mentioned, “As a kid, this is what you dream of. Honestly, I never considered I’d be racing for someone like Michael Jordan. Their belief in me means a lot, and I aim to honor that trust.”
