LeBron James has faced some challenges at the start of the Lakers season.
In a recent episode of a show, he opened up about his experience. He mentioned that he had to give up his beloved chocolate chip cookies while missing the first 14 games of 2025 due to sciatica.
“When the season started, I obviously wasn’t playing,” he shared with Steve Nash. “So I had to give up something. I had to sacrifice something. And I actually did two things that I really like: drinking wine and eating chocolate chip cookies for dessert. I stopped completely.”
James has a well-known fondness for cookies. Last year, he even said that his love for them caused some tension with Pat Riley during his time with the Heat.
When discussing his decision to cut back on sugar, it was clear quitting those sweet treats was a struggle for the 41-year-old.
James noted that he had started this ban on cookies and alcohol back in November as part of his recovery from a back issue.
He went on to say that they decided to maintain this restriction through December. “I kept going,” James recalled. “I didn’t get my first drink and my first dessert until New Year’s Day. So I ended up going for essentially two months.”
Initially, James found it particularly tough to give up cookies, though he admitted that letting go of wine wasn’t easy either.
“I wasn’t playing and I was feeling a little stressed, so maybe I wanted a drink here. A drink there,” he mentioned. “But it was nice to be able to rest my body.”
James made his season debut with the Lakers on November 18 and has since played in 36 games leading up to the All-Star break.
He has averaged 22 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game and has been selected as an All-Star for the 22nd consecutive year.
