Tyson Fury Talks About Retirement and Family Reactions

Tyson Fury shared that his wife, Paris Fury, “stopped talking to me” after he announced his fifth retirement from boxing last month.

The two-time WBC heavyweight champion mentioned that his family, including his father, John Fury, and brothers—John Jr., Shane, and Hugh—are not supportive of his returning to the sport. “My father stopped talking to me for a while. My brothers did too, even Paris,” Fury, 37, noted in a recent newspaper interview. “Everyone cut me off.”

“Nobody wanted me to come back and they made that clear… but this is my decision and my life,” he added.

Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) is set to face Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2-1, 19 KOs) on April 11 at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the event being promoted by Ring Magazine and streamed live on Netflix.

“It was my decision and maybe a little selfish,” Fury admitted. “I’m happiest when I’m in the ring, entertaining people, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I think I’ll probably keep fighting until I’m 50.”

Despite announcing his fifth retirement in January 2025, he clarified that he has no intention of permanently stepping away from the ring. “I came back because I chose to. I chose boxing because I love it. I’m not doing this because I need to make money,” he explained. “I know people want me to move on, but it’s just not something I can do.”

Paris and Tyson married in November 2006 and are parents to seven children: Prince Linda of Venezuela, Prince John James, Prince Tyson II, Valencia Amber, Prince Adonis Amazia, Athena, and Rico.

Fury had previously mentioned isolating himself from his wife and children for three months to prepare for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024. He described Paris as the “biggest mentor” in his life.

“To have a woman who’s been with me through tough times… it takes a strong person to stay,” he remarked. “My biggest mentor in my career is probably my wife, because without her, I would have been unemployed many times over.”
