JD Vance criticizes AOC's 'embarrassing' foreign policy remarks in Munich

Vance Criticizes Ocasio-Cortez Over Munich Conference Performance

Vice President J.D. Vance has sharply criticized Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.N.Y.) for her recent remarks during the Munich Security Conference, calling it “the most disgusting 20 seconds of television” he has ever witnessed.

“Does anyone honestly believe that AOC has well-thought-out ideas regarding world order or the U.S.’s Asia and European policies? I don’t think so,” Vance remarked during an interview on “The Story” on Tuesday. The conversation touched on various topics, including the U.S. military’s stance on Iran, the upcoming midterm elections, and highlights from the Munich event.

These comments followed backlash against Ocasio-Cortez, who is considered a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election, for her responses on foreign policy while attending the conference. Former President Donald Trump criticized her answers as “bad” for the nation, and Vance accused her of simply repeating slogans crafted by others.

While addressing criticisms of President Trump’s detention of ex-Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, Ocasio-Cortez incorrectly stated that Venezuela lies south of the equator. “This isn’t a commentary on who Maduro was as a leader—he was anti-democratic, yes—but that doesn’t justify acts like kidnapping heads of state just because you’re near the equator,” she said.

Vance critiqued Democrats, implying they often pander without true comprehension. “She’s someone whose thoughts are hard to gauge,” he stated during his chat with Fox News anchor Martha McCallum. “It’s common for politicians in Washington to be handed lines; when challenged, they often can’t back it up.” He specified that this sort of behavior was particularly evident with Ocasio-Cortez when she hesitated over whether U.S. troops should intervene to protect Taiwan from China.

“Well, you know, I think this is very, you know, this is uh, well, long-standing U.S. policy,” Ocasio-Cortez responded, displaying clear uncertainty. She suggested that avoiding conflicts and questions like that should be a priority.

The Vice President urged Ocasio-Cortez to better educate herself about the U.S.-China dynamic prior to making public statements on the international platform. “If I had responded like that, I would think, perhaps I should read up on China and Taiwan before next time. I hope Congresswoman Cortez will show similar humility,” Vance remarked.

Vance also argued that Ocasio-Cortez’s performance underscored what he described as a “thin” Democratic approach to crucial foreign policy issues. Ocasio-Cortez’s office has been contacted for further comment.
