Attempted Kidnapping at Supermarket in Italy

An alleged homeless man has been charged with attempting to abduct a toddler from her mother at a supermarket in Bergamo, Italy, on Saturday.

Surveillance footage captured the moment when the mother and her one-year-old daughter were leaving the store. As they approached the automatic doors, a Romanian man came up to them, as reported on Sunday.

The child’s father was also present during the incident, noted in the reports, and he can be seen pushing a cart right behind them.

In the video, a mother, holding her daughter’s hand, was seen when suddenly, as they exited, a man in a blue hoodie and green pants allegedly crouched down and tried to grab the child and flee back into the store.

The footage shows the mother clutching her daughter’s arm, then disappearing from view, while the father follows closely behind. Shortly after, the mother struggled to pull her daughter away from the man, colliding with a sign near the exit. She fell, and other shoppers quickly rushed to help her.

The incident occurred in Esselunga Mall. Italian state police reported that officers swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended the suspect.

Authorities stated that the investigation involved collecting witness statements and reviewing the footage, which led to charges of attempted aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault against the suspect.

Following the altercation, the child was taken to the hospital due to a fractured femur, as reported by several sources.

The femur, noted in medical resources, is the longest and strongest bone in the human body, crucial for mobility and balance. A fracture typically results from severe trauma, like a fall or an accident, often requiring surgery and physical therapy for recovery.

Reports mentioned that the suspect is currently in prison, though confirmation of the arrest is pending.
