Adrienne Curry Shows Support for Tyra Banks Amid Controversy
Adrienne Curry, who made history as the first winner of America’s Next Top Model, has come forward in support of Tyra Banks following the release of Netflix’s docuseries Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model. This series critiques the show’s “toxic” legacy.
In a recent video shared on her social media, Curry expressed her respect for Banks despite her own challenging experiences on the show, such as being underfed and having to wear a weave that caused hair loss.
“She has no regrets,” Curry mentioned honestly in her video. “She’s not apologizing to you. That bitch isn’t apologizing. She won’t bend a knee, and I respect that. Want to lie to her? Go ahead, but don’t expect her to acknowledge it.”
The new documentary, which debuted this week and is currently gaining popularity on Netflix, aims to explore the lasting impact of the show that ran for 24 seasons.
It includes voices from former contestants and judges, such as Miss J. Alexander, who voiced her disappointment that Banks did not reach out after she suffered a stroke in 2022.
However, Curry, who distanced herself from Hollywood years ago, contends that the anger directed at Banks is often misplaced. “So, I take my hat off to you, lady,” she said to Banks. “Keep being yourself and don’t let negativity affect you.”
Curry praised Banks for standing her ground when it comes to the treatment of contestants and the show’s theatrics, even describing it as psychological warfare.
She added, “People come up to me and say, ‘None of the judges feel sorry.’ Why should they? They’re all well off… I have mad respect for Tyra because it’s tough to resist the pressure from so many people trying to persuade you. She’s just like, ‘Forget you; I’ll do what I want.’ And I respect that.”
