Jake Canter Wins Bronze in Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle at the Winter Olympics
American snowboarder Jake Canter had a long wait to see if he’d land a spot on the podium in the men’s slopestyle event at the Winter Olympics on Wednesday. His final run earned him a score of 79.36, securing him third place. However, the suspense lingered as he had to wait for Canada’s Mark McMorris, Norway’s Marcus Cleveland, and New Zealand’s Dane Menzies to finish their respective runs before he could celebrate.
At the base of the slope, Canter anxiously watched McMorris struggle and fall on his last jump. Although Cleveland had a strong performance, his score of 78.86 points wasn’t enough. Menzies, who had the final run, unfortunately crashed and found himself in disbelief on the ground.
Finally, when the results were confirmed, Canter couldn’t contain his happiness at winning the bronze medal.
China’s Su Yiming claimed the gold, while Taiga Hasegawa also took home a gold medal.
In another event, MAC Forehand secured a silver medal for Team USA in the Men’s Big Air Finals.
This marks Canter’s first appearance at the Winter Olympics and his first Olympic medal. He previously showcased his skills by winning the World Cup competition in Aspen, Colorado, against not only Menzies but also Su.
The World Cup season is set to resume in March, with events planned for Flachau, Austria, and Sivaparan, Switzerland.
This achievement is particularly significant as it’s the first time the U.S. has stood on the Olympic podium in this event since 2018, when Red Gerrard took home the gold. Gerrard finished sixth in Wednesday’s competition.
